What can UGBC actually do?

UGBC is not the Board of Trustees or administration, but it does have real authority. Mary and Colin understand that many of you feel UGBC can't and won't do anything for you, so why should you care?

Well, here’s what it can do:

Allocate Student Activity Fee Funding: UGBC controls how its portion of mandatory student fees are distributed within its jurisdiction.

Pass Binding Legislative Acts: It can compel action within UGBC’s structure and operations.

Issue Official Policy Positions: Resolutions formally state the undergraduate position on campus issues.

Conduct Oversight: The Student Assembly can request documentation, call executive members to testify, and oversee spending.

Advocate to Administration: The President formally represents the undergraduate student body in administrative conversations and negotiations.

Restructure Itself:

UGBC can...

Create or abolish divisions
Reform internal processes
Change how it gathers input
Redesign how it allocates resources

Structural reform is within UGBC’s authority.

What UGBC cannot do is...

Change tuition and mandatory fees
Unilaterally override university-wide policies
Participate in outside political campaigns
Turn vague wishes and demands into impactful, targeted legislation
