Center for Isotope Geochemistry
The CIG encompasses two lab spaces: the TIMS Facility and the new LA-ICPMS & DeltaV Lab. The TIMS Facility resides within our department in Devlin Hall. The Facility includes three key parts: a mineral separation lab, a clean lab, and a TIMS lab. The LA-ICPMS and DeltaV Lab is in a new facility about a three minute walk from the department in the new Integrated Science Building. Find more information about the CIG HERE.
Below are a few views of the new Class 1000 UltraClean room when it opened in 2016. It includes six Class 100 work cubbies for indivdual use, one Class 100 laminar flow bench, and four Class 100 laminar flow fume hoods for clean lab chemistry. The lab complex also includes a Class 10,000 Clean Room with an additional laminar flow fume hood and clean bench for beaker cleaning and additional sample prep.
The TIMS Lab currently houses two Isotopx Phoenix TIMS each with 9 Faraday cups. One has a full suite of both 10^11 and 10^12 ohm resistors, while the other is equipped with new ATONA amplifiers. Numerous collaborators visit the lab each year, providing the group ample opportunity to meet and engage with diverse researchers from around the world. The lab often welcomes tours for classes, students... and the lab even has windows!
