The Assignments

Welcome to your summer reading challenge! This assignment is designed to keep your mind active, your imagination engaged, and your reading skills sharp. 

• CP students are required to read one short story and complete the corresponding packets.

• Honors students are required to read two short stories and complete two corresponding packets. 

The goal isn’t just to read—but to think, question, and respond. Whether you're diving into a world of fiction or exploring real-world connections, this assignment will give you the chance to practice skills that will support your success in the coming school year.

Your summer reading packet includes three key parts:

• A journal prompt that helps you reflect on your reading experience
  
  

• Dialectical journal entries to dig into important quotes and ideas
  
  

• A connection to a current event using a NewsELA article
