Up and Running!
Greetings!
While you will receive a 5th grade newsletter each week with general content and grade level information, this site will offer more D203 ELA/SS-specific information for those interested in diving a little deeper with us! I will divide it into 1 or 2 sections--Just the Basics, which can be scanned quickly for information without all the fluff, and occasionally Same, But With More Words, which offers a little extra insight into this teacher's perspective from her vantage point. I hope you find this page useful, and if you don't, that x in the top right is in your hands!
Just the Basics
We started reading Wonder, finally, on Friday. We are a little behind where I planned for us, but the beginning of the year especially requires flexibility. This week, I plan for us to complete 2 paragraphs and our first set of comprehension questions practicing the RATE method.
In related news, I can't always guarantee our Google Classroom is on pace with our actual classroom. The students have been told multiple times that if it isn't in their assignment notebook, it isn't for homework. The caveat here, obviously, is that I am trusting students to write anything they are supposed to write in their assignment notebook. "If it is supposed to be in the assignment notebook and it isn't it's still for homework" just isn't as easily chanted, though...so hopefully they get the intent behind the message.
In Social Studies, we will start studying continents and oceans this week, with a quiz on Monday, 9/11.
Scholastic Book orders...I understand that by 5th grade many families move away from the book orders, but as the ELA teacher (and the wife of a very...frugal...man), I can't stop myself from offering these catalogs just in case you're interested. They are way more affordable than retail, and the selection is top notch. I will place our first order on Tuesday, 9/12, and will determine if I will continue sending out catalogs based on response. I will send home the grade 5 catalog on Monday, and you can order with the attached form or online (Keep in mind, ordering online often gets you more deals!). Our online code is NBFY6. You can check out and order from any of the catalogs on the site; you aren't relegated to just 5th grade. The books make amazing gifts!
That'll do.
I had every intention of including my first "Same..." section this week, but I'm losing my stamina. It's probably for the best:)
