Precalculus is a high school level course which earns one high school credit for successful completion. The course of study for precalculus is based on the Ohio Department of Education Standards and Common Core Mathematics Standards. Precalculus topics include conic sections, series, vectors, matrices, functions, trigonometry and algebraic manipulation.
Ownership of a graphing calculator is required within the first week of class. Any TI-84 Plus version is recommended and will be the calculator used for teaching. TI-84 Plus versions include the TI-84 Plus, TI-84 Plus Silver Edition, TI-84 Plus C Silver and the TI-84 Plus CE. The textbook for Precalculus is Precalculus Third Edition from CPM Educational Program and is issued to students in an online format. Students access their online textbook at https://sso.cpm.org and logging in with Google and their school username and password. The online textbook contains many helpful support features including homework help and parent pages with extra practice. Students and parents are encouraged to utilize these resources to increase success with the course.
The CPM program is designed around the principles of cooperative learning, problem-based learning and mixed-spaced practice.
Class assignments will be posted in Google Classroom but Google Classroom will not be used for grading. While assignments may say they are ungraded in Google Classroom that does not mean they are not for a grade. Grades will be posted in Progress Book.
