If you are a general education teacher and not gifted certified (Gifted Intervention Specialist or GIS) or AP certified you need 15 hours each year through the 2020-2021 school year. This is the scenario for most of the teachers in the district. If you are AP certified and have 24 hours of professional within the last five years, please read the next FAQ.
If you are gifted certified then you do not need professional learning hours.

If you teach AP are certified with 24 hours of AP training in the past five year you only need 7.5 of gifted education professional learning each year until the end of the 2020-2021 school year.
Teachers who teach AP classes are considered by the state to teach students with gifted abilities. Therefore, it is important all teachers know about gifted education and it's services.
Any hours earned beyond the 15 in one school year count towards next year's hours.
According to Ohio Administrative Code 3301-51-15 on page 9, "Document ongoing professional development and specialized training in gifted education on the "Individual Professional Development Plan" (IPDP), or by other methods as determined by the department and monitored by the district; "
To comply with ODE's statement, a teacher of gifted learners will need to amend their IPDP to include a goal or expand on a previously written goal related to gifted. The teacher will need to document the activities in the professional learning log and submit it to LPDC. This will have done each year until the 2020-2021 school year.
The district will determine how many ongoing clock hours are needed per year after the 2020-2021 school year.
To get a book you will complete the gifted book lending library form. The book or books you have requested will arrive through interschool mail from Jen Mertes. Take the needed time to read, digest its contents, and apply what you learn. Return the book or books to Jen in a timely manner so others have access to them.
Yes, all instances of professional learning must be aligned to the gifted education competencies stated by ODE. Each instance of professional development must be aligned to one or more of the competencies in your gifted professional learning log of hours.
