"Illustrative Math is a problem-based core curriculum designed to address content and practice standards to foster learning for all. Students learn by doing math, solving problems in mathematical and real-world contexts, and constructing arguments using precise language. Teachers can shift their instruction and facilitate student learning with high-leverage routines to guide learners to understand and make connections between concepts and procedures." 

The components of daily math lessons are:

 1. Warm Up

 2. Activity One and/or Activity Two in Small Group Instruction

 3. Technology Practice & Seat work Practice

4. Lesson Synthesis 

5. Cool Down/ Assessment

Math Units  ( order of units may vary)

1. Introducing Multiplication  

2. Area and Multiplication 

3. Wrapping up Addition and Subtraction within 1,000 

4. Relating Multiplication to Division 

5. Fractions as numbers 

6. Measuring Length, Time, Liquid Volume and Weight 

7. Two Dimensional shapes and perimeter 

8. Pulling it All Together  (optional). 

Math grading policy:

Test grades are graded on a 1-4 scale but will be paired with a number grade. Cool downs are scored with  with a 1-4 scale. Students struggling with  concepts will be pulled for small group instruction Classwork/Teamwork/Participation- Informal observation will guide small group instruction.
