Writer's Workshop

During Writer’s Workshop, students will be expected to write a wide variety of genres daily, become a stronger writer, be respectful, and come ready to learn. A significant portion of class will be spent on writing and conferring with the teacher and other students. Students will work on improving the following:


The writing process

Writing fluency

Writing stamina

Writing across genres (fiction and nonfiction)

Use of writing tools

Students will also develop rigorous vocabulary and refine grammar within the workshop setting.

Reader's Workshop

During Reader’s Workshop, students will be expected to read a wide variety of texts (fiction and nonfiction) in and out of class. A significant portion of class will be spent reading and conferring with the teacher and other students. Students will be asked to actively engage in frequent discussions about books and materials they are reading. Writing is also required.

Students will work on improving the following:

the reading process,

reading fluency,

reading comprehension,

critical thinking,

and knowledge of texts and literature.
