Every relationship is built on communication. The same is true of our relationship with God. It requires constant communication to grow. One of the primary ways you can communicate with God is by practicing daily personal worship. Many times we think of worship as what we do on Sunday mornings, but worship is something that should be done EVERY day.
We want to encourage you to develop a habit of daily worship. You may not know what this looks like or even where to begin. We have put together a “Personal Worship Guide” to help you begin this journey. This guide leads you in Bible reading, prayer, and other practices like scripture memorization and songs.
The reading plan takes you through the whole Bible in one year, a book at a time. As you read, seek to understand the context of the passage. This involves answering as many who, what, when, where, and why questions as possible. We encourage you to journal your findings using the H.E.A.R. Method: Highlight, Explain, Apply, and Respond.
The Response is your prayer. In light of the passage you read, how will you respond to God in prayer? A.C.T.S. (Adoration. Confession. Thanksgiving. Supplication.) is a helpful tool for different types of prayer. Both the H.E.A.R. and A.C.T.S. methods are outlined in the guide.
In addition to Bible reading and prayer, the personal worship guide offers tools for other practices such as scripture memory, silence and solitude, and music. Our worship team provides a monthly playlist available on our YouTube Channel. The playlist consists of worship songs we sing corporately on Sunday mornings.
We invite our church family to commit to a personal worship time. Use this guide to create and sustain a daily rhythm of spending time with Jesus. If you’ve never committed to a daily time of worship, now is a great time to start! You may also choose to find 1 or 2 others to come alongside you on this journey, meeting every 1 or 2 weeks to discuss what you discovered in the scripture readings.
In the year ahead, ask God each day to speak directly to you from the scriptures. Be expectant, and let your continual exposure to God’s Word reshape your attitude and behavior as we help each other follow Christ Jesus together.
