Bay School activity classes are our version of PE. In any given year, offerings may include climbing (over at Movement SF at Crissy Field), strength training at the YMCA, hiking, and more. There is something for almost everyone!
Fall 2025 Activity Sign-Ups have closed. Spring offerings will be available in early 2026! Click here to see our Fall 2025 offerings. Activity offerings change based on student interest and facility availability. Please note that while we try to accommodate student's top choice request, due to limited space its possible students might have been placed in their 2nd or 3rd choice. Placement is not first-come first-serve, or by seniority.
Students who want to participate in a Bay Activity need to commit to attending all 3 activity days/week. Students who have standing appointments that conflict with activities are asked to meet with the athletic office.
Students who miss more than nine activity classes (excused and/or unexcused absences) will not receive credit. Please note if students miss an activity class due to their commitment to Bay theater, those absences do not count towards to the total number of absences. If you need to miss an activity class, please email: your activity leader, athletics@bayschoolsf.org, and attendance@bayschoolsf.org, copying a parent/guardian.
Activities are offered in the fall and spring semesters. There are no activities during the winter Immersive term. Students who are participating in a fall sport can join a winter activity (not for credit), if space is available.
If you regularly participate in a sport or physical activity, such as dance or martial arts, you may apply that toward your activities graduation requirement. You need to obtain written approval from the athletic office in order to receive credit for an alternative activity. Students must complete an alternative activity form for every semester that they would like to receive credit.
Alternative activity credit request forms for the fall 2025 season are no longer being accepted. Spring alternative activity request forms will be availabe in early January.
Alternative activities must:
Run for the entirety of the semester
Meet a minimum of 3 hours/week
Have a coach/supervised adult (not including a parent/guardian) who can account for the student's participation
Some activities that ARE approved for alternative activity credit include swimming, karate, parkour, dance, gymnastics
Some activities that are NOT approved for alternative activity credit include working out on your own, choir, outside theater groups
