Focus Skills for October: Multiplication
Remember the goal at home is to teach the concepts. Students are not expected to complete every page of the workbook. The first 4 pages of each lesson are instruction pages. The focus pages will be the practice and homework pages.
As you teach these concepts at home, watch for your child's understanding. If they have a concept down, you may choose to adjust the amount of problems that they complete on these pages. The goal is to keep the learning moving forward at a pace appropriate for your student! The Spiral Review problems on the last page of each lesson need to be completed to help retain math learning throughout the year.

Week of Oct 19-23: Ch. 3 Lessons 1-2: Multiplication facts for 2,4,5,10. Please focus on completing these pages: pg. 113, 114,119,120. Since we don't have as many pages to complete this week, please use your at home learning time to practice the facts using flashcards, IXL, or games. I am including some resources that can be helpful with learning these facts. You can also use the reteach and enrich pages found under the Ch. 3 resources heading on Google classroom.

Additionally, if you go to the Learning tab at the top of the IXL page and then go to the Math section, there is an option for Fluency Zone. In the Fluency Zone, you will find games to practice different sets of multiplication facts. Fluency Zone
Week of Oct 12-16: Please complete the chapter review pages found on pgs. 101-106. Focus on the following problems: 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 14, 19. We will be taking the Chapter 2 test on Thursday/Friday. Included are other options to review and practice the strategies taught in Chapter 2.
Workbook pages for Chapter 2 are due next week! Remember to staple together all of Ch. 2, including the review pages, write student name on the top page of the stapled packet, and have a parent sign the top page.

As a reminder, students do not have to complete every skill. Use IXL as a tool for extra practice with a skill that your student is still working on. My expectation is 10-20 minutes of IXL per week. If you have questions, please let me know!

Week of Sept 22-26: Chapter 2 Lessons 1-4. Please focus on having these pages completed: pgs. 63, 64, 69, 70, 75, 76, 81, 82.
These strategies will be very helpful to understand when we start working on memorizing multiplication facts. If any strategy is confusing to your student, feel free to have them choose a different strategy to complete the practice/homework page. They need to show how they solved the problem - which strategy they used.
Using counters or other visual items help to reinforce these strategies.

Week of Sept. 15-19: This week we will work on Ch. 1 Lessons 5-7. The workbook pages that you will need to turn in at the end of the chapter are: pgs. 35, 36, 41, 42, 47, 48.
Week of Sept 14-18: This week we will work on Chapter 1 Lessons 3-4. The workbook pages that you will need to turn in at the end of the chapter will be 23, 24, 29, 30.

Week of Sept 7-11: This week we will work on Chapter 1 Lessons 1-2. The workbook pages that you will need to turn in at the end of the chapter will be 11, 12, 17, 18.
To use the lessons at home, use the first 2 pages to teach the skill. Work on these together. The third and fourth pages are practice together opportunities for the student to show if they are ready to try the skill independently. You do not have to solve every problem on these pages. The final two pages of the lesson are for the student to work on independently. They should try to complete all of the problems on these pages. Please check these problems and reteach skills as needed. Please speak with me if you need to adjust any of these routines for your child.
