"Zero" hour __________________________________________________________ Jazz Band
The PHS jazz band is an auditioned jazz ensemble that competes and travels throughout the year. This is a top ensemble and you must audition to be in jazz band. Jazz band meets before school everyday.
First Period______________________________________________________Wind Ensemble
Wind ensemble is our top group at PHS and involves all concert instruments (brass, wood winds, NOT percussion). Percussionists will take percussion ensemble which meets during fifth period. PHS wind ensemble is a competitive group that travels and competes throughout the year. This IS an auditioned ensemble.
Second Period_______________________________________________________Symphonic Band
Symphonic band is our second level band at PHS and consists of freshmen-seniors. This group is auditioned and also competitive. The ensemble travels throughout the year for trips and competitions and also is part of the awesome PHS Pep Band!
Third Period_______________________________________Concert Band
Concert band is our freshmen only band. This class is NON-auditioned. The group does not travel as much as the other ensemble for festivals, but is a part of the PHS pep band and also comes with us to our trip to Disneyland. This is a great ensemble to acclimate to our band program!
Fifth Period________________________________________________________Music Theory
This music theory class is affiliated with the AP test and students will be taking the test at the end of the year. This class will cover extensive training with both music theory and ear training. The students will transcribe rhythms and melodies, as well as identify intervals, chords, and scales. These skills will help with their musicianship and ability on their instruments. This course would be perfect for students who want to pursue music in college as well!
