Ryan Messling is a graduate of the University of Idaho. He graduated in 2015, the year he was the recipient of the Lionel Hampton Scholar Award; which is the most prestigious award for the Lionel Hampton School of Music. He earned his bachelors degree in instrumental music education and his primary instrument is Double Bass. Beyond education, Ryan Messling is also a professional musician and has played bass for various jazz bands, jazz combos, orchestras, and pit orchestras. During his time at the University of Idaho, he has played alongside many world renowned musicians such as Grammy award winning John Clayton.
Ryan Messling is originally from Boston, MA and has lived most of his life in Spokane, WA. New to the area, last year he student taught with Greg Mckelvey at Battle Ground High School and Danielle Armstrong at Chief Umtuch Middle School. During his first year at PHS, the jazz band won the AAA division of the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. He plans to grow roots at Prairie High School and build the program to levels unreached for a long time.
