Washington State History
Mrs. Donahue
First-I LOVE our state and I love talking about it, learning about it and sharing experiences!
All state requirements will be met in this class. We will be using the district textbook “The Washington Journey” as our base. Most of the information will be via slideshows I have created, discussion, timeline creation, and hands on learning activities/projects. We will use articles and the textbook at times to build social studies skills and help students to be prepared for high school.
Work coming home will mainly be literature. We will be reading the following books, in this order (I have purchased the books:
Daughter of Suqua by Diane Johnston Hamm
Paper Wishes by Lois Sepahban
Grape Thief by Kristine L. Franklin
I love these books and feel they contribute the human element to history that adds value to our story. All books are in my classroom for preview if you are interested.
Students will be expected to:
Read the assigned text and fill out a very simple reading log.
Attend class, they will receive a 0 if they miss a class. They can make it up by viewing the slideshow for that day (posted in Google Classroom) and providing a summary. History is sequential, you can’t just skip portions.
