Self-Manager Program

The Sixth Grade Self-Manager Program

Sixth Grade Parents and Students,

Hello. We are excited to tell you about the Self-Manager behavior program we will be using with our Sixth Grade classes. Most of our students had this program in Fifth Grade, and we will continue it in Sixth Grade. The self manager program is a way of recognizing and honoring students of good character who consistently set positive examples for their peers.

What is a self manager?

A self-manager is a student who consistently follows the expectations in school, including the four CATS Principles:

Creates a safe environment

Acts responsibly

Treat others with respect

Strives for excellence

They follow the expectations in all areas of the school: in the classroom, at specialists, during lunch and recess, and in the hallways. Students who are identified as a self-manager will wear a badge, so that all adults in the school will be able to recognize their status.

How does a student become a self manager?

Students can fill out an application to become a self manager, and must be approved by all of the their teachers to earn initial self-manager status. After that, they are a self-manager unless their badge is taken away.

What are the privileges of being a self-manager?

Self-managers will be honored members of school, and will be trusted to walk themselves to specialists and recess without an adult. They will receive special treats for being a self-manager and participate in other rewards provided by their teachers.

How can parents help support the self manager program?

Encourage your student to demonstrate self-manager behavior in school, and honor your student when they earn their self-manager badge!

Thank you for your support as we continue with this program which we hope will encourage all of our students to embody the four CATS principles and to be accountable for their behavior at school.
