Using the Design Principles you reviewed last week and reviewed below...
You will be curating a collection of artworks (tied to your art career path)
to show your understanding of the Principles of Design and do some guided art research.
Turn in final Collection SlideShow or Weblink to Google Classroom.
Video of me explaining this.
Here is one example of the finished product. (I only did one principle, you do all 10)
I used Google Slides for this, but there are other options.
You will need to show the 10 Principles of ART.
Add the Principle, Define it, then...
Add Image from a professional in your art career, (add citation to the slide)
and write HOW the image shows the Principle of Design.
or...
do this same format in a Google Site, or in a Padlet.
So, when we talk about the Principles of Design... There are many different ways to talk about them.
The chart to the left here list 10 terms that are all tools to plan and organize work.
Balance, Contrast, Emphasis, Pattern, Unity, Movement, Rhythm, Repetition, Proportion, and Variety.
Click the pop out to fully read the definitions of each one.
There are many ways to discuss the principles and group them into teachable terms. We will be using the 10 listed to the left here for this project.
As a reminder, the Elements of Art are the building blocks artists use to create art.
and
The Principles of Design are how we organize those blocks in the artwork.
These review cards have the elements and the principles.
There are More collections to look at below in the Art Collection Padlet. Use the Scroll Bar to find various Career Paths.
(Suggested options)
Make a Google Slide Show-
Don't forget a Title Slide.
Make a Google Site. Basic Info here.
Use Adobe Spark to Create a Spark Page (webpage in Spark) if you have Spark account. Basic Info Here.
Create your own Padlet and house your Collection there. I would do this one.
See if you can get ArtSteps.com to work for you.
*Please see the Broyles Design Group Art Collections Below. You may use your own sources as well. You may add your own art if you want, but it is in addition to the professional artwork for each one.
These collections have been curated for you to explore various artworks within your art career pathway. Use these for inspiration and research into your field, or others! As with all museum visits, please explore the artworks at will. Please keep an open mind to various expressions of beauty and viewpoints. The Broyles Design Group does not share all the viewpoints or expressions shared within the museums. If I forgot a Path, please let me know. If you have a resource to add, please email it to me. Enjoy!
To show your recall and application of the Principles of Design,
You will be researching various artwork sites and museums* to create a collection of artwork.
Each piece of artwork in your collection will be an example of one of the Principles of Design.
You will show me all 10 Principles of Design listed on Document above.
Each piece will have a museum label citing the artist, the title of the work, date, and media or type.
[it is good practice to add a link to show the source of the image.]
Each piece will be labeled with the Principle of Design and what it means.
Each piece will have text written by the student that tells HOW the piece shows the Design Principle
example... This is a good example of Balance because the all little buildings on the right side balance out the tall tree on the left.
example... This is a good example of Emphasis because the red lipstick draws your eyes to her lips.
Most of the images on Google Arts and Culture Site will only allow you to Copy the link. That is ok.
Copy the link and then Paste the Link into a Padlet. Nice and easy.
BUT if you are making a slideshow... Take a screenshot of the work and add it that way if you can only get the link.
If your are in Yearbook.
I want you focusing on graphic design or Book covers or photography. You can use this as an exploration into What makes a good Book Cover... or a good photograph.
If you are in more than one class, yes, you will be making two Collections.
You can choose different categories for each collection, for example... Fashion and Photography. Just like you have 2 career paths... you will explore both.
Email Boss Broyles with questions or additions to add to the Collection Padlet! We can make this thing really great for everyone!
