I grew up in southeast Portland, attending Oregon's biggest high school, David Douglas High School (Go Scots!), where I was fortunate enough to participate in many school events and clubs. I have always enjoyed school and embraced each class I took. I have had an appreciation for learning from a very young age and decided to pursue education as a career.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education for all subjects, kindergarten through eighth grade from Corban University in Salem, Oregon. While attending Corban University, I was lucky enough to do some traveling to both Mexico and inner-city Philadelphia to do non-profit work in each community. These experiences ignited my passion for education, solidifying my view that education provides hope for every community. My passion is found in teaching all children.
I began my teaching career in Lakewood, Washington, teaching fourth grade to children in need of stability and a safe place to learn. I have seen many students' needs met through the power of education and a healthy relationship with a caring teacher. The first three years of my teaching career shaped me into the teacher I am today.
I came to CAM Academy in 2019 to teach ELA and Social Studies in third grade. After three years in primary, a welcomed opportunity presented itself to move up to middle school!
In August of 2022, I graduated with a Master's degree in Educational Technology from the American College of Education. Continuing education is important to me; I enjoy applying new-found knowledge and tools in the classroom.
I've always had a passion for traveling to new places. I have been lucky enough to have traveled to many different countries. Highlights include: Beirut, Lebanon,;Cairo, Egypt,;Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Bangalore, India. During these travels, I was afforded the opportunity to see how schools operate in many of the countries visited. These experiences have given me a much broader vision of what education can be.
I have been married to my husband Tom since 2003 and have two kids! Being a teacher is a joy, and I hope to inspire a love of learning in each of my students as well.
Hello, and welcome to 6th grade at CAM.
I am excited to be working with the students and families here at CAM. Having worked for the Battle Ground School district for many years I know well the reputation that CAM has for high expectations and motivated learners.
I hope to get to know each of my students well and facilitate their individual aspirations and provide encouragement and guidance for areas where they struggle.
Prior to being a teacher I had a successful career in retail management and so strive to make "real world" marketplace connections for the material we learn in science and math class.
