1. Brief description and aims of module:
It is increasingly apparent that the origins of many adult psychiatric problems are precipitated to an extent by missing neurodevelopmental milestones. This module will look at neurotypical brain development and atypical neurodevelopment from prenatal stages to adolescence. In this module, we will look at neuropsychiatric problems like Tourette’s disorder and ADHD; as well as developmental disorders and acquired brain injury problems that specifically affect children and young adolescents.

Clinical assessment of child/adolescent neurodevelopmental problems
Neuropsychological domains of function
Neuropsychiatric disorders 1) Tourette’s disorder
Neuropsychiatric disorders 2) Attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder

Autistic spectrum disorders
Language disorders
Memory disorders
Traumatic brain injury
Social disorders
Neuropsychological interventions
3. Teaching and learning activities:
One-hour lecture and two-hour seminar. Seminars will build on lecture topics, exploring means of assessing and rehabilitating neurodevelopmental problems in this area.
Teaching: 1-hour lecture and a 2-hour seminar weekly.
Learning: Through lectures and seminar activities, summative and formative assessment.
