1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module serves as an extension to Musicology 3 (Specialist Study 1). You will further extend your knowledge and skills in musicology and/or ethnomusicology by exploring musical repertoire, style, process, function and context through the study of a specific elective topic. The topics offered change from year to year but will address a variety of musical styles and musicological issues across various historical periods. Your musicological work will be advanced further in this module to allow you to develop your own specific musicological interests and your own independent analytical and critical voice.
2. Outline syllabus
You study a variety of musical styles, issues and representative works. You will take both a contextual and an analytical approach to case studies. Some topics will have fieldwork and/or practical elements.
3. Teaching and learning activities
Musicology is delivered in weekly lectures and seminars. Tutorial support will also be provided.
