1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module aims to teach students how to research, write and produce high-quality reports for television news. Students will learn the techniques, language and regulation of broadcast journalism and learn how to use appropriate technology along with practical skills. It will reflect the best current practice in broadcast newsrooms in the UK. The module provides a platform for students to engage creatively across subject areas.
2.Outline syllabus:
Roles and responsibilities of Broadcast Journalists.
Conventions of television journalism.
Understanding the differences in broadcast journalism output
Understanding the codes and conventions of television news package making.
Production of an outside broadcast
Production of live news show
Interviewing for TV.
Presenting and live reporting the news.
Mobile journalism.
3.Teaching and learning activities:
A combination of seminars, workshops, news days, and newsroom team exercises will contribute to the learning experience in this module. You will research and produce news packages, and will receive individual and group support in the form of tutorial and peer learning exercises. Support will be provided throughout the preproduction, production, post production and delivery stages of the final live news show.
