Please also note that you cannot take this module if you have chosen FTV6000-40 Live and Recorded Production.

1.Brief description and aims of module:

This module aims to enable FTDP students to work in groups (between 3 and 6) in order to plan and develop a project to create a substantial artefact. This artefact can be of the student’s own choosing, but must be located within the context of the programme (i.e. film, TV or digital production).

Students will be expected to work within industry-defined roles. They will design, plan and work as a team to complete an ambitious and large-scale project.

Students will, in essence, develop an idea for a film, TV or digital production, pitch this to the group, and then ‘crew’ into small groups setting about refining their ideas and convincing their tutors that they can achieve the project. The project will need to be pitched with the following considerations: planning, project timing, health and safety, and other relevant contexts. In addition students will be expected to define and present their role/s in the group.

• The ‘ambitious project’ and its audience

• Understanding the ‘big group’ working experience

• The project idea: identifying specialist artistic and technical skills for the project.

• Project structure: developing a framework in collaboration with other subject areas.

• Timelines, budgets, effectiveness and viability.

3.Teaching and learning activities

A combination of seminars, workshops, brainstorming sessions, discussions and collaborative team exercises will contribute to the learning experience in this module. You will research and design projects, and will receive individual and group support in the form of tutorial and peer learning exercises.
