1. Brief description and aims of module:
This is the final module of the course, and is structured around your self-defined creative brief, or an industry brief relevant to your career aims. The module is an opportunity to extend and deepen your interests in a specific area of furniture and product design, and define your individual design practice. It culminates in resolved furniture or product outcomes, which are presented to a public audience. The aim is to graduate from the course with a strong design portfolio, and personal creative vision.
2.Outline syllabus:
The module starts with brief writing developing the framework for your final project, followed by a sustained period of intensive development. This includes in-depth creative research, experimentation, materialising and testing, and capitalises on your skills developed previously in the course. The module enables you to deepen your knowledge of relevant materials and processes, to undertake research strategically, and deepen your critical perspective of a specific context. You are encouraged to consider your standpoint on ethical, social and sustainable perspectives on design. The body of work presented at the end of the module should be resolved and executed to a professional standard.
Alongside your studio based work this module prepares you to launch your design practice, and position your work in a professional context. You are encouraged to identify professional opportunities, such as potential employers or platforms, and devise a plan for the immediate future. This may include a business or production plan, or preparation to approach employers. You will be supported in developing a portfolio in an appropriate format, communicating your professional identity. You will also be expected to apply your project management skills, and to contribute to the group planning of graduation exhibitions and publicity.
