1. Brief description and aims of module:
In this module you will co-develop and co-teach, alongside academic staff a module for delivery at level 4. This will entail session planning and delivery of content around academic skills that you think are important to know in your first year. The module will therefore consist of planning sessions and delivering sessions. You will work with academic staff to understand how to facilitate learning at higher education level and how to facilitate the level 4 cohorts’ learning of academic skills to ensure they are successful in their journeys on Education Studies.
2.Outline syllabus
The planning session for this module will consist of discussion about how to promote learning at level 4. This will be facilitated discussion with the module leader and the module cohort. You will devise and plan sessions for delivery to level 4 students around your own interests and the information that you, as students, think is important for level 4 students to know.
The delivery of the module will be carried out as a group, co-teaching in pairs or groups alongside an academic member of staff. This will consist of delivering the materials you have prepared and acting in the role of facilitator for these sessions.
The final sessions will be an assessed ‘marking jamboree’. Here you will peer assess the level 4 students’ work that you set in the teaching the sessions. You will be able to understand the nature of assessment and the issues associated with objective marking and commenting on undergraduate essays.
3.Teaching and learning activities
The pedagogical approach in this module is that of facilitating your learning and empowering you to take ownership of it. The three elements of the module: planning, delivering and assessing, are carried out through small and whole group discussion, presentation of learning materials by the module cohort and discussion of assessment criteria and activities.
