1. Brief description and aims of module:
Recent years have seen podcasting and audio drama become a major growth area in the digital entertainment industry. Building on the approach of learning through doing, students will critically explore a range of issues relevant to podcasting that will then be applied to the creation of their own podcast. Consideration of how podcasts are developed, the ethical and editorial issues involved, the acquisition and expansion of audiences, will be explored alongside research into contemporary practitioners and platforms. Students will also be introduced to a range of production techniques, ranging from idea management tools such as Affinity Diagrams, to scripting, presentation and editing (Audacity or Audition). Students will apply what they learn to the design, creation, production and distribution of their own podcasts that will be made available for download.
