1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module offers you the opportunity to work as part of a student company on the preparation, rehearsal and performance of a Musical Theatre showcase.
This module aims to:
Develop your individual technical and interpretive performance skills to an advanced level
Provide experience of Musical Theatre ensemble work
Strengthen your understanding of the research, planning and rehearsal required for high quality Musical Theatre performance work
Please note that students outside the Musical Theatre Pathway must pass an audition to take this module. If you have previously taken Musical Theatre Skills, Musical Theatre Workshop or Musical Theatre Workshop 2 these will serve as your audition; if not, we will be in touch after module selection to arrange your audition submission.
2. Outline syllabus:
The module consists of rehearsing and performing a formal musical showcase. Entry is by audition after which staff will work with you to help choose songs suited to your interests and skills. You will then rehearse the numbers under staff guidance in preparation for a final performance. There will be a strong ensemble feel to the project, with everyone contributing to the overall show according to need, skills and interests.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
The module is highly practical and will largely consist of ongoing tutor-led and independent rehearsal leading towards formative and summative performance presentation. In addition to performing, there may be opportunities to work on other areas such as scriptwriting, directing, choreographing, musical directing and accompanying. You will be expected to undertake in depth planning and research to support and inform your performance work.
