1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module provides you with the opportunity to work on a substantial dance performance project with professional artists. The intention is for you to develop and refine your dance skills and to accustom yourself to the demands and protocols of a professional working environment. You will have an opportunity to develop your understanding of how your skills and knowledge will enable you to operate in your chosen employment market. This is designed to assist you in your transition from the university to a number of careers in the dance industry e.g. performer, choreographer, film maker and teacher.
2. Outline syllabus
Working alongside other company members you will research, develop and present a new major creative project for a selected audience. During this module you are expected to follow the practical routine and studio etiquette of a professional company member through participation in for example, technique classes, rehearsals, workshops and performances. The module allows the experimentation and manipulation of sophisticated movement material and performance content under the direction of company members.
Your skills will be assessed on a continual on-going basis and also through the role you undertake within the project. Tutorial support will be offered for monitoring your progress across all areas of the module.
3. Teaching and learning activities
You will attend regular practical sessions that will allow you an opportunity to contribute towards the development of the project. You will also be expected to work independently outside of these times in order to fulfil the role that you have been allocated. The dance studio, the University Theatre and the virtual environment of Minerva form the basis of the teaching and rehearsing spaces for this module. Bath Spa Live – the University’s promotional arm – is responsible for providing a professional experience in terms of budgeting, marketing and production.
