1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module aims to prepare you physically for the expectations of the professional arena and for postgraduate study. It demands from you a refined, rigorous and personal investigation into movement material as a form of communication. The intention is for you to perform with increasing physical skill with a more interpretative focus on movement material that is guided and informed by reflective analytical clarity and forethought. It will require you to reflect on the sourcing of concurrent impulses prior to, and within, a movement or movement sequence. You will be expected to develop a more creative and stylistically personal interpretation of codified material.
2. Outline syllabus:
The module, while demanding a clear representation of codified vocabulary, will encourage you to develop your interpretive and stylistic skills. Sequence work will allow you to work with more rhythmic, dynamic and musical freedom enabling you to explore your physical expression. There will be greater opportunity to develop your creative responses to given technical challenges.
Emphasis in this module will focus on your ability to develop and interpret given material. There will be more time given over to self reflection and your analysis of personal style in harmony with set vocabulary. While still demanding technical precision, coordination and alignment, there will be more opportunity to communicate your individual creative response will be expected.
3. Teaching and learning activities:
Current expectation of the professional environment will be at a forefront of teaching strategy. The module is taught through practical sessions. The module aims to, through a careful and guided process, prepare you for the professional arena. You will have regular feedback during class to help develop your individual reflection and evaluation. Mock presentations classes will be another valuable way for you to receive feedback on your progress. Self directed study will be expected to help you to prepare for assessments.
The dance studios and the virtual environment of Minerva form the basis for this module. Practical work is supported by the university library, digital video resources, and the knowledge and experience of tutors and the student cohort.
