1. Brief description and aims of module:
This module explores issues in musicology and/or ethnomusicology through a series of elective topics. You will develop your knowledge and skills by exploring musical repertoire, style, process and context through the study of specific topics. The topics offered change from year to year but repertoire comes from a variety of musical styles, periods, genres and cultures across the world. You develop your own independent analytical and critical voice in the context of a variety of musicological study areas.
2. Outline syllabus:
You study a variety of musical styles, processes and representative works. You will take both a contextual and an analytical approach to case studies. Some topics will have fieldwork and/or practical elements.
3. Teaching and learning activities
This module is delivered through lectures, seminars, practical workshops and performances.
