When Should I Contact the School Counselor?
Parents may contact the school counselor if:
- Your child doesn't want to go to school
- Your child tells you he or she is having trouble making friends
- Your child is having trouble adjusting to the school routine
- Your family circumstances have changed (divorce, separation, domestic violence, substance abuse, etc.)
- There has been a death or loss in the family and you want information to help you talk to your child about it
Students may contact the school counselor if:
- He/she is having trouble with a friend
- He/she wants someone to talk to
- He/she is having trouble with school work and doesn't know where to go to get help
- He/she is getting picked on and doesn't know what to do
- He/she wants to learn about leadership, cultural diversity, community service, or careers
