When Should I Contact the School Counselor?

Parents may contact the school counselor if:

  • Your child doesn't want to go to school
  • Your child tells you he or she is having trouble making friends
  • Your child is having trouble adjusting to the school routine
  • Your family circumstances have changed (divorce, separation, domestic violence, substance abuse, etc.)
  • There has been a death or loss in the family and you want information to help you talk to your child about it

Students may contact the school counselor if:

  • He/she is having trouble with a friend
  • He/she wants someone to talk to
  • He/she is having trouble with school work and doesn't know where to go to get help
  • He/she is getting picked on and doesn't know what to do
  • He/she wants to learn about leadership, cultural diversity, community service, or careers
