Stage crew provides all technical assistance in scenery, lighting, sound, props and wardrobe. Some of the responsibilities of stage crew include moving set pieces during scene changes, operating spotlights, controlling the sound and light cues, working with microphones, setting up quick-change rooms, providing special effects, building and painting set pieces, decorating front of house.
Basically, if it happens off stage or behind the scenes, the stage crew is responsible. We help make the show look good!
The East Hills Stage Crew primarily focuses on helping with the East Hills Theatre Company show. From the months of December through February, students attend rehearsals, come to a few Saturday work days and attend every dress rehearsal, mandatory rehearsal and show for the East Hills Theatre Company. In addition to that work, the students are also responsible for setting up the auditorium and audio/visual equipment for any large scale event. This may require students to attend music concerts, talent shows, etc. Stage Crew students are asked to be “on call” for those events until the end of the school year, which is much later than the East Hills Theatre Company season.
Backstage crew members help move the set pieces on and off the stage during the EHTC season. After the season ends, the backstage crew is responsible for setting up and tearing down any major event in the Auditorium. The Backstage crew will have a “lead” member on each side to help guide them throughout the show.
This can be composed of multiple students or one student, depending on the show. This student is responsible for working the music and the projector throughout the show. After the EHTC season ends, the crew is responsible for setting up microphones and the projector for all major Auditorium events.
During the EHTC season, light crew runs the light board and the spotlights. They will join the backstage crew on work days but sit and take notes for the majority of rehearsals in January and February until “load in” of lighting equipment arrives. After the EHTC season ends, the crew is responsible for running lights for any major event happening in the auditorium.

Hi! My name is Cayla Moyer, and I’m an eighth grader at EHMS. This is my second year in stage crew, and I love being part of the production and working behind the scenes in the theatre. In my free time, I enjoy listening to music, reading, writing, and hanging out with my friends. I’m excited for another great year as part of the crew at EHTC!
Hi! I am Ben Ackerman. I am an 8th grader at East hills middle school, this is my third year here. This is my second year with EHTC and am one of 4 leads in the Stage crew! I am also a part of East hills choir, and I enjoy art, singing, and stage crewing. This is going to be a wonderful EHTC season!
My name is Star Martin. This will be my third show with EHTC, my second as a Stage Crew Lead. I really like all the friends I have made as a part of stage crew. Painting the sets is always fun for me because I enjoy painting outside of EHTC. I am really looking forward to seeing Cinderella come together and be a fantastic show!
Hi! I'm Catalina and I'm one of the stage crew leaders this year! This will be my second year in theater and I'm looking forward this year to meeting new 6th graders and having another awesome performance!! What I enjoy the most in theater was how much fun we had at Saturday rehearsals, all the dinner nights, and building sets with all the crew members. When I am not in theater I enjoy playing soccer and spending time with my friends and family.
