Best Study Tips for the 2017 - 2018 School Year
Jamie Marshaleck
Studying; the epitome of fear in schools across the universe. Nobody knows how to study effectively, much less stay awake while studying. But studying can really help you ace your test -- if you study the right way.
☆ Study every day. At home, after a new lesson in class, go over your notes and what you’ve learned. It’s much easier to memorize facts one at a time instead of binging the night before your big test.
☆ Study before you sleep. It’s scientifically proven that the brain memorizes things from the day when you’re asleep. The closer your studying session is to when you sleep, the more likely you’ll wake up the next morning with your facts memorized.
☆ Go places. For instance, if you’re studying in your bedroom, after a few facts, go outside. Then go to the library. Then your kitchen. Studies show that being in a new place every so often when studying makes stronger memories.
☆ Write your notes out. Scientists say that when you write what you’re trying to learn, you’re memorizing it, because you’re mentally storing it by writing it out.
☆ Drink water. Water keeps you alert and it keeps you from passing out on your notebook with your pencil stabbing your eye out.
☆ Don’t procrastinate. If you wait until the morning of your test to even so much as read your notes, the only 100% you’ll be getting is the chance of failing.
☆ Meditate. Studies have found that staring at a wall for three minutes before studying helps boost attention span and calm any anxiety you may have.
☆ Listen to music, and not just any music. Listening to classical music before studying can reduce anxiety and give you a much needed boost of self - confidence -- you can do this!
☆ Sleep! Get at least 8 hours of sleep before a big test. Sleep allows you to think clearly; no more pumpkin spice lattes cluttering your mind!
☆ Learn what helps you. Everyone’s different, and you just need to figure out what sort of studying works for you.
