"I Can" Statements:

  1. I can demonstrate that when a whole or set is partitioned into y parts, the fraction 1/y represents 1 part of the whole.
  2. I can demonstrate that the fraction x/y represents x equal parts of the whole.
  3. I can represent fractions on a number line.
  4. I can recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions.
  5. I can express whole numbers as fractions.
  6. I can generate fractions that are equivalent to whole numbers.
  7. I can compare two fractions with the same denominator using the symbols >, <, or = and justify the conclusions.
