Homework can be one of those topics that people have very strong opinions about. While I do not believe in giving homework just for the sake of doing it, I do believe working at home with your child on concepts that have been covered in school can be beneficial for students and parents. Students can get extra practice with recently learned skills and parents can keep current with what their children are learning. I believe homework should be meaningful and something children and parents can participate in together. The homework your child will receive in kindergarten will most likely be an occasional math sheet that is often a fun game or activity the whole family can do and/or some reading, writing, or handwriting practice. Homework should not take a long time (10 minutes or so) and should not be stressful. If you or your child ever struggle with any work that is sent home, please let me know. Kindergarten students typically enjoy showing off what they've been learning and doing, whether it is at school or at home. Let's take advantage of that enthusiasm and encourage good homework habits.
