8th grade students dove into some new projects including making 3D sculptures on the bandsaw and using different angles to make picture frames. We talked about measuring and how inaccurate measuring can poorly affect the outcome of a project.

7th grade students finished their wood shelves, complete with custom designs. They individually curated designs to make their shelves unique, as well as getting to laser engrave personalization onto their shelves. Now to finish the quarter they will make their own puzzle cubes, with each one being different and hard to solve! They make these out of wooden cubes after they spend a week designing and prototyping using 3D modeling software.

6th grade students are solving world problems, students are tasked with finding an everyday problem and creating a solution for it. They go through the engineering design process just like real engineers to find the best solution! Once they have come up with good solutions they share them with their classmates and engage in discussions on ethics and feasibility of their inventions.

What is Math Fundamentals all about? 

Math Fundamentals meets every other day all year and we focus on

• Previewing/reviewing what is happening in the core math classes

• Spiral skills so that what is learned is repeated and practiced 

• Work on any weaker areas that show up on the MAP math test.

Our class motto is to persevere. If we can continue having a perseverance mindset, it will not only allow us to continue to show growth in math, but in all of life!

Mrs Sharp had to take some time off this year, but Mrs Buchanan is filling in and keeping the class running with the same focus and fun.

The next round of MAP testing will be happening soon, and each student will be conferring with Mrs. Buchanan to go over their results and make a plan going forward to continue to persevere and grow.

The first semester standouts chosen by Mrs. Sharp and Mrs. Buchanan in conjunction with the core math teachers are below. They are real all stars and appear on the class “Wall of Champions”!
