Ms. Hojnacki
7th Grade Math
In Ms. Hojnacki’s math class, we are still working through Unit 2 called “Analyze and Use Proportional Relationships”. Students have been learning about ratio and rate concepts and how to recognize proportional relationships. In math, there is a lot of room for variations on how students can solve problems. Students were introduced to three different methods on how to determine if ratios have a proportional relationship. This allows students to have a choice in which way they like to solve the problems based on their comfort level. By the end of this unit, students will be able to represent proportional relationships and graph proportional quantities on a coordinate plane. Can you tell which graph shows a proportional relationship and which one does not?
Mr. Guiswite
7th Grade ELA
Recently, we have begun to focus heavily on Text-Dependent Analysis and Text-Dependent questions. Text-dependent analysis type questions and writing force students to synthesize answers based on specific evidence within a text and demonstrate their ability to interpret the meaning behind that evidence. Answers are based on evidence from within the passage, but often ask students to interpret that evidence and justify it as an answer. These skills are extremely important for the upcoming PSSAs as well as the future!
Ms. Szymkiewicz
7th Grade Science
In Science class, we have been learning about how traits are passed from parent to offspring. We have been predicting what offspring would look like based upon the genes of their parents. Soon, students will begin using punnett squares to predict the probability of certain gene combinations and traits. It combines our scientific concepts with math skills.
Mr. Cernuska
7th Grade Social Studies
Students in Mr. Cernuska’s Western World Geography class will be starting a new and exciting 3 Marking Period project focused on inventions that have had a significant impact on mankind. Each student will choose one invention from any empire, civilization, or time period to research and present. Through this project, students will gain a better awareness of important inventions throughout human history while building their research and presentation skills. In addition, students will begin an in-depth study of the Central and South American civilizations. I look forward to seeing their curiosity and enthusiasm continue to grow as they explore these fascinating topics.
