Message from the Principal
Hello, families and friends of BAMS!
Welcome to the February edition of our newsletter. We are officially halfway through the school year, a milestone that brings a sense of stability to our classrooms. While the weather remains unpredictable—and we wait to see if the groundhog promises an early spring or a few more weeks of winter—our students are leaning into the core of their academic curriculum. This is a critical time for maintaining focus and building on the progress made during the first semester.
As we move deeper into the winter months, our school-wide focus is centered on three broad objectives. You may see these themes reflected in your student's work and attitude:
Academic Consistency: We are encouraging students to stay disciplined with their study habits. The goal is to move beyond the "mid-year slump" by staying organized and proactive with assignments.
Social Responsibility: February is a great time to refocus on how we treat one another. We are challenging students to be intentional with their kindness and to contribute positively to our school culture.
Personal Growth: We encourage students to reflect on their progress since August. It is helpful to identify one or two personal areas for improvement—whether it’s participation, time management, or trying something new—and take ownership of that growth.
Conversation Starters
We understand that at this age, students are not always willing to share what a typical day may be at school. If you would like to have some conversation starters, here are some ideas:
What was the best part of your day, and what was one thing you’d do differently if you had a 'reset' button?
If you were the principal for just one day, what would be the first rule you would change and why?
Which teacher has the best sense of humor, and what did they do today?

As we move through this month, we want to share our genuine appreciation for the support you provide at home. Middle school is a period of significant transition, and it isn't always a linear path to success. We see the effort your students are putting in, and we see the steady encouragement you provide behind the scenes. We are glad to have you as partners in this process and are looking forward to a productive and focused second semester!
With gratitude,
Dr. Garman and Mr. Runk
Our student musicians traveled to Richland High School to represent our district at Keystone String Fest, and we are so proud of the dedication, professionalism, and musicality they displayed.
While these festivals are a chance to perform beautiful music, the morning began with rigorous blind auditions. Our students competed against the top players from across the region, and several of our musicians earned distinguished placements:
Reese Lakatosh, 8th grade, viola: 2nd Chair (Assistant Principal) — A nearly perfect audition score!
Aaron Stewart, 9th grade, viola: 3rd Chair — An "Excellent/Advanced" rating across all categories.
Emily Moretz, 9th grade, cello: 9th Chair — A top-ten finish in a highly competitive section.
Mackenzie Dix, 9th grade, violin: 13th Chair — A courageous successful first-ever audition in the elite 1st Violin section (almost 20 students auditioned in this section!).
Beyond the rankings, we want to extend congratulations to every single student who participated.
8th grade:
Peyton Gates, violin 1
Allie Dix, viola
Alissa Kyte-Yech, cello
7th grade:
