Boys and Girls team Tryouts 2023

What Do I need to do to become a WBHS Soccer Player?

Step 1: Make sure you are eligible!

A. Paperwork - To be eligible to participate in ANY soccer activities at WBHS you must have the following:

  • A current physical on file (see form below - scroll to the bottom)

  • Proof of insurance (either on the physical form or a photocopy of your insurance card)

  • Dragonfly account - You also need to create a Dragonfly account if you're a new player and that's where the school will upload your physical (see instructions below - scroll to the bottom below the physical form). If you're a returning player, sign in to your Dragonfly account and update your information for this upcoming season.

You can turn these in to the coaches or to the front office. This must be on file BEFORE you can participate in any activities - including conditioning & tryouts.

B. Grades - You must make sure you are academically eligible. We take the STUDENT part of student-athlete seriously. The GHSA requires that you meet the following to be eligible:

  • Pass at least 3 out of 4 courses in the semester before the season (which is this fall - keep your grades up!)

  • That you are on track with your class cohort (meaning you have enough credits to match your year in school)

Step 2: Attend team conditioning

We will begin team conditioning after Thanksgiving Break on the WBHS Practice Field. This gives the coaches a chance to get to know each player interested in trying out and to observe their commitment/work ethic, fitness level, and attitude, in addition to jump starting team fitness and chemistry. The expectation is that conditioning will be attended by all interested and returning players (especially returning players).

Additional Information

Equipment Needed for Conditioning / Tryouts / Practice

  • Bring a water bottle to each conditioning/tryout/practice and make sure to hydrate throughout the day

  • Make sure to bring cleats, flats, shin guards, gloves (for keepers) and cold gear to each practice (find a bag in which you will keep all necessary gear)

  • Forgetting items at home is not an acceptable reason to skip conditioning/practice or be late

Coaches' Basic Expectations of WBHS Soccer Players

  • Attendance at every conditioning, tryout, practice, and game is mandatory. You must DIRECTLY notify a coach if you have an emergency that causes you to be absent.

  • Put your ego aside and be respectful – we have to be a team, not a collection of individuals. Teamwork wins games over talent. We have to be conscious of our attitudes and language – the way we treat our teammates.

  • Hard work! Show up at each practice ready to improve something and get better than you were when you showed up. We will never assign drills just to kill time, so if you’re not good at a drill or “don’t like it” that’s probably even more reason to do it. We don’t get better unless we’re out of our comfort zone.

  • The players who work the hardest, take coaches’ direction the best, and contribute the most to the game plan will play. Playtime is not a given, especially based on age or YOUR perceived level of talent. If you get subbed out we will do our best to explain why/what you can do to improve, but it isn’t always due to a mistake (we may be wanting to try different folks or give another teammate playtime).

  • You will have a ball running responsibility assigned and if you miss it there will be consequences.

Team Dues (for those who make the squad)

  • If you make the squad you will be expected to pay team dues before the first game and receiving any team gear. We do our best to keep them as low as possible compared to other schools around us and still offer quality apparel and uniforms, as well as replacing aging equipment.
