Movement breaks to walk to get a drink of water, take bathroom break, have student run an errand, standing instead of sitting, take class to gym, teaching class outside, other classroom exercises or progressive muscle relaxation techniques.
Using Post-it notes for communication when students don't like to be called on, need to communicate but don't feel comfortable going to teacher's desk yet, or simply to put "positive- encouraging-good job- proud of you!" messages on student's desks.
Stress balls in the classrooms to not just reduce stress, but to provide distraction from big emotions, center teachers and students in the present moment, and even strengthen muscles in those hands and fingers. And don't forget to play "Quiet Ball!"
Journals in the classroom. It's a great way teachers connect with students, see where they are coming from, dig deeper into what the lesson is about, or just to relieve stress by writing down feelings or drawing something for 5 minutes to take a brain break to help focus and get back into those academics.
