Barren County School District Mental Health Coordinator

My name is Shawna Shartzer and as the first Barren County School District Mental Health Coordinator, it is my mission to help students reduce barriers to increase academic achievements.  I assist our School Safety Coordinator and School Resource Officers to maintain physical/psychological school safety. I implement and reinforce programs that increase social emotional learning, substance use prevention, trauma sensitivity, and suicide prevention in our schools. I support parents/guardians by networking with out of school community partners to ensure our students are receiving resources as needed. I work closely with School Counselors, School Psychologists and FRYSC to implement support as students transition into Barren County School setting from out-of-district placements.  Students/staff come to me for topics such as study skills, motivation, social skills, organizational skills, everyday living skills, mediation, coping with transitions, conflict resolution, grief/loss, coping skills, or stress management.
