GSuite for EDU Training

Bardstown City Schools began using GSuite for EDU (formerly Google Apps for Education) for students, teachers, and staff two years ago. As with any educational endeavor, a strong partnership with families is essential to a successful experience.

The following services are available to each student and hosted by Google as part of GSuite for EDU:

  • Docs / Slides / Sheets- a word processing, spreadsheet, drawing, and presentation tool set that is very similar to Microsoft Office
  • Calendar - an individual calendar providing the ability to organize schedules, daily activities, and assignments
  • Sites - an individual and collaborative website creation tool
  • Other Apps - Google provides a large selection of apps suitable for student use. Man 3rd-party apps offer Google single-sign on, allowing GSuite for EDU users to sign in with their Google Accounts.

Why use Google Apps for Education?

• To provide students with access to current technology applications and free tools designed for collaboration with other students and teachers

• To give students the ability to work on their documents both in school and at home - anytime and anywhere from any Internet connected device

• To help students work collaboratively, engage in peer-editing of documents, and publish for a wider audience.

• To facilitate “paperless” transfer of work between students and teachers

• To provide adequate long-term storage space for student work

• A potential cost savings in terms of software licensing and document storage

How are BCS and Google linked together?

While Google hosts and maintains the services, access is managed by BCS and no information stored or used in the core GSuite for EDU services is scanned by Google. GSuite for EDU is COPPA compliant for student safety.
