Spectra Survey of Mathematics Conference
University of Kentucky
May 19, 20, 2023
I can't thank the organizers enough for this fantastic opportunity to be immersed in a community of queer mathematicians. I saw some amazing talks, and particularly adored Dr. Alexander Hoover's fluid dynamics of jellyfish propulsion.
MAA Annual Conference
Pace University
April 29, 2023
Seeing Talithia Williams give a keynote talk was such a treat! I had to go watch her documentary Zero to Infinity afterward. She and Eugenia Cheng are both so inspirational in their approach to communicating mathematics -- they are determined to share the joy and wonder innate in this great exploration.
Colorado Conference for Underrepresented Students in Mathematics
Colorado State University
April 14, 15, 16, 2023
So grateful for this opportunity! I saw some amazing talks, and seeing excellent mathematics presented by my peers was truly heartening. The organizers of this conference really went above and beyond in creating a space for us to thrive and be proud of the work we've done.
Computational Problems in Low-dimensional Topology Workshop
Rutgers University
April 8, 2023
Had some really valuable conversations, this was my first conference on a very specialized topic, and everyone was happy to elaborate on their research and provide broader context. One speaker had a particularly entertaining presentation style which I hope to see more of.
Four Decades of Einstein Chair Seminar Conference
CUNY Grad Center
January 17, 18, 19, 2023
So much fun! Geometry, topology, dynamics -- topics I'm very excited about, community, familiar faces, learned about more seminars to attend Spring 2023. This conference was intimate and enjoyable, I estimate 60-80 people in the lecture room at any given time, no running around, exactly 12 hour-long talks scheduled, plus generous breaks, and big banquet, totalling to 22.5 hours of conferencing in 3 days!
Joint Mathematics Meetings
Boston
January 4, 5, 6, 7, 2023
Woah. Big. Lots of running around. Focused on attending pedagogical talks and learned a lot from those. About 30 people attended our research talk, fast-paced poster presentation was new and fun, made so many new connections! Meeting new people was the most valuable product of this endeavor.
Trans Math Day
Online
December 3, 2023
What a joy! Amazing talks, wonderful people. I dedicated all my free waking hours for a week straight on remaking and refining my presentation for this event, because the opportunity to speak at a conference designed to center my voice was so valuable and rare. Such a happy day.
OURFA2M2: Online Undergraduate Resource Fair for the Advancement and Alliance of Marginalized Mathematicians
Online
November 19, 20, 2023
Highly recommend to all undergrad math students. I learned about valuable programs I quickly pursued, I saw so many non-white-non-men mathematicians speak, I witnessed a great feat of collaborative effort of students serving their peers (this conference is entirely student organized).
AMS Fall Eastern Sectional Meetings
UMass Amherst
October 1, 2022
What fun!! My first non-undergrad math conference, and this immersion in such a volume and density of diverse mathematical thought was exhilarating. Spending three hours in a combinatorial algebraic geometry session, having absolutely no previous exposure to the content, and still enjoying every moment, solidified my confidence in throwing myself into unfamiliar mathematical opportunities with excitement.
WIMIN Women in Mathematics in New England
Smith College
September 17, 2022
This was a thoughtfully designed conference. I particularly enjoyed the keynote talk by Laura DeMarco on the Mandelbrot Set, which sparked in me a fascination with dynamical systems and prompted much googling and enthralling-fractal-image-collecting.
SUMR Symposium for Undergrad Math Research
SUNY New Paltz
September 10, 2022
Ah! My very first math conference, and I was essentially made a keynote speaker ( ⚆ _ ⚆ ) I gave the very last talk of the day to a room full of all the attendees of the conference! My parents, professor, and close friend all came to see me! This was a wonderful introduction to conferences, I was so full of happiness and excitement while speaking. I made three friends here who I still keep in contact with and see at conferences.
I moved back to Brooklyn in January 2023 to immerse myself in the NYC math scene. I engaged with many weekly seminars at various institutions, frequenting:
Columbia Undergraduate Math Society
Geometry and Topology Seminar at CUNY Grad Center
Geometric Topology Seminar at Columbia
Hyperbolic Geometry Seminar at CUNY Grad Center
Geometry Seminar at NYU
I had the fantastic opportunity to be paired with Dr. Sabrina Pauli of the University of Duisberg-Essen to conduct research in the field of enumerative algebraic geometry during the Spring 2023 semester. We have recently joined forces with Dr. Stephen McKean of Harvard University to expand on our results and plan to submit for publishing later this year.
I spent two months living with 9 other undergrad math students, working 9am-10pm every day, learning to conduct mathematical research in the field of combinatorial representation theory, under the direction of Nate Harman and advisement of Josh Mundinger. The experience was invaluable and gifted me with an enormous volume of resources, tools, motivation, and confidence, which I have applied to pursuing many successive opportunities in math. I have presented our work at five conferences, and the preprint of our paper is available here! https://arxiv.org/abs/2210.07261
