The Magic Starts Here!
In 6th grade, every student is invited to experience beginning band and learn an instrument from the start! Band is offered as part of the daily schedule for all interested students in grades 6, 7 and 8.
Sixth Grade Band (Beginning Band) is team-taught by three members of the Barberton Band Staff. Enrollment is around 100 students in the beginning band program. The class divides into homogeneous groupings several days a week, with students having full band experiences on the other days. Students wishing to play oboe or french horn are required to take private lessons. Sixth grade band gives 3-4 performances a year: November, December, April, and May. Students are provided an instrument and are also invited to participate in our private lesson program!
Seventh Grade Band is also team-taught, allowing students the opportunity to have frequent sectionals and individualized help. Seventh Grade also performs three concerts a year. Students focus on technique, ensemble sound, and musical concepts through the use of method books and band repertoire. Students are encouraged to participate in our lesson program to grow their skills!
Eighth Grade Band focuses on ensemble concepts and sounds, and help students develop extended technique on their instruments. This group gives several performances each year: BHS Marching Band Youth Night (September), December Concert, Bands-in-the-Round, and Spring Concert. The ensemble has also participated in OMEA District 6 Large Group Contest. Students are encouraged to participate in our private lesson program!
