Lecture 1: Navigation
Navigation Tasks:
Plan a route up Snowdon ending in Llanberis.
Use at least 2 checkpoints (i.e the Start, Middle, and End). Make sure to include a 6 figure grid reference for each checkpoint.
Describe tick off and catching features between check points.
Include bearings between each check point.
Measure the distance and height gained between check points, use this to determine how long it will take to walk between the check points at 4Kph.
Include notes on possible escape routes or alternate routes between check points.

Be able to identify each part of the compass required for navigation.
Practice taking a bearing. Take bearings of:
Pen y Pass from Snowdon summit
Idwal cottage from the summit of Tryfan
Bethesda Church from Carnedd Dafydd
Moel Ellio Summit from Electric Mountain Car Park
Can you think of a situation where taking a back bearing would be useful?
