Otto Wels, March 23, 1933, Gedenkstätte Deutscher Widerstand
On March 23, 1933 Otto Wels spoke out in one of his speeches. He said that The Enabling Act was taking away basic human rights.
"No Enabling Act gives you the power to destroy ideas that are eternal and indestructible" ~Otto Wels
Otto Wels opposed the enabling act for trying to take away basic human rights. "No Enabling Act gives you the power to destroy ideas that are eternal and indestructible” (Wels). This quote talks about how not even the Enabling act gives anyone the power to destroy eternal ideas such as freedom, equality, and human dignity. That no matter how powerful a government is and how hard they are trying to push certain laws, these ideas cannot be taken away from any human mind.
