Before the revolutionary play by Magic Johnson from 1979-1996, the NBA was heavily controlled by positions other than guards. His play changed this norm by his ability to play multiple positions and being able to score a multitude of points as a point guard. Because of this success it caused others to follow in his footsteps like Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett.
