“‘He really is magic, ’ says guard Brian Taylor of San Diego. ‘He's got great charisma. It's fun just to watch someone who can get the ball to his teammates when they're open. There are a few other players in the league who can do that, but what makes Magic special is the way he brings his own personality to it, ’” (Newman).
Spectators of the NBA were impressed with Magic's talent.
"As a result, TV ratings improved, but not strictly because of better network packaging. The product simply was upgraded, primarily by the arrival of two box-office attractions, L.A.'s Magic Man and Boston's Larry Bird,” (Atkin).
Though rookies, Magic Johnson alongside Bird caused viewership to increase as he was a big attraction to the league and made him a box office attraction. This means Magic was popular and made a large audience because of his playstyle which was rightfully so as he won Finals MVP as a rookie.
