Many people are appreciating the Family and Medical Leave Act and there have not been many major complaints.
Kay Selnes experienced an awkward situation with her employer when it came to asking for time off to care for her family. Although, once the Family and Medical Leave Act was passed there were no more awkward moments for workers because they didn’t have to worry about losing their jobs, which made work and asking for time off a lot less stressful.
“Kay Selnes found herself in an awkward position in asking her employer for a ‘flex hour’ arrangement so she could care for her mother-in-law”…“The law took effect on Jan. 1. Selnes said it’s reassuring to know she can take days off here and there to help her mother-in-law without any awkwardness for the workers or employers” (“Family-leave law sets precedent”).
In this picture it shows Debbi Harris with her son who was saved by the Family and Medical Leave Act. Debbi Harris had a full time job until her son, Josh, was born with complications such as a grade IV brain hemorrhage in utero and he had suffered from anoxia and hydrocephalus from birth. This image supports our answer because if it weren’t for the Family and Medical Leave Act Debbi’s son wouldn’t have survived because she would have lost her job, which means they wouldn’t have been able to pay for his treatments.

The Government is responsible for protecting the rights of families in relation to medical leave.
The government created the Wage and Hour Division to protect the rights of workers in many instances, one being the FMLA. On their website they offer a variety of resources to help workers such as general guidance, fact sheets, and Interpretative guidance.
”The Wage and Hour Division was created with the enactment of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) of 1938. The Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of a wide range of laws which collectively cover virtually all private and State and local government employment” (U.S Department of Labour).
The wage and hour division shows how many people they have helped since the passing of the Family and Medical Leave Act. It shows who is responding for protecting the rights of families and the work they have done.
