The government wanted to help make sure that the relationship between family and work life was healthy and assure families that their families wouldn’t affect their work life.
The government established that those who needed to prioritize their family were able to do so without putting their jobs in jeopardy. They made sure with the FMLA that both employers, and employees, were benefited successfully making the connection between home and work life stronger, which is much different than before when people would be forced to choose between work or family.
"The Act is intended to balance the demands of the workplace with the needs of families, to promote the stability and economic security of families, and to promote national interests in preserving family integrity" (“Part 825-The Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993”).
