She went to college to learn more about medicine and nursing, so all mothers or other patients could have a place to go to be cared for.
“When she enrolled in the Boston University School of Medicine” and “She graduated with honors in the spring of 1883”. (Solberg).
It was not easy for Dr. Martha to open up her hospital, but she was determined. She went to college, graduated with “honors”, and immediately started looking for housing and office space after she visited the hospital. She had a difficult time because she was feeling exhausted, and anxious, but she did not give up. She wrote letters back to her family saying how challenging it was to find housing, and how she was having a hard time mentally. Eventually her family moved to Minneapolis with her, and she continued her job at the hospital.
This image is the Boston University School of Medicine. This is where Dr. Martha graduated with honors. This is the main step she took to open her hospital. This image is important to show where she went to school.
