Interactive Notebook Day!.ppt

The most effective way of utilizing your notes is interactive review and study time. This should be done daily or at least every other day and should be limited to 10 - 15 minutes at a time. It is the revisiting and interactive nature of this note taking method that has the greatest impact on what you retain!

Below are some helpful tips and reminders about how you can interact with your notes.

ANNOTATIONS

In annotating a text, students become active readers, asking and answering historical questions, making connections both to prior knowledge and other texts, and summarizing—all widely endorsed reading comprehension strategies.

How do I annotate my notes in history?

Annotating involves highlighting, underlining, and making marginal notes while reading a document. Some students have little experience annotating, or focus solely on reading comprehension. It's imperative that we begin learning how to identify perspective and investigate historical context so that we can think critically and improve our historical understanding. It takes practice! Use and practice the Cornell way in other classes and subject areas to get better - quicker! Students will also be taught how to use the symbols below - or ICONS as part of their annotation process.
